Poem: Marriage : The Stone of Second Chances
I wrote this to illustrate the often ugly reality of marriage. The seasons we find ourselves in that defy logic and exist due to hope compassion, forgiveness, and the often unconscious belief that your lives are together are bigger than the sum.
The Stone of Second Chances
I question our arrival.
An ambiguous direction marked by this spinning compass,
Time's salted regrets erode a once youthful bliss,
Grayness becomes the color of the sunrise,
Darkness falls through one chamber into the next,
Once vowed patience becomes swallowed by demons of unfelt apologies.
Logic foreshadows individuality,
Voices comfort and justify,
The right loses direction but becomes an explosive catalyst for entropy,
Silently she waits,
Simmering beneath the rubble,
Waiting for her turn to speak.
Will I listen?
Has her reverberated echo been quiesced?
Have my fractured choices become the determinate?
Or will the smoldering rouge embers billow with sweet lavender incense.
Choosing,
Inhaling the call,
Lungs expand with decisive resound,
Naked,
Arms towards the poles I stand before anticipating,
Adrenaline throbbing,
Awaiting what gleams over the horizon.
Sure footed & prepared to scale,
The obelisk towers,
An invisible wall gives rise to vinyl texture,
Thoughts, the needle, provides clarity in analog progression.
Rhythmic melodies soothe, offering calming reassurance,
An optimistic ear listens as syncopated heartbeats conduct the sunrise.
Rising upwards looking upon the checkered landscape of choice,
Looking down I see all except,
Empathetically I feel all except,
Experiencing multidimensional existence,
Haunting interlocking frames remain frozen in time,
Waiting,
Hoping,
Praying I accept the purpose of this rustic chipped edge cog.
A calming exhale lifts the milky fog,
Feeling released to purpose it is revealed,
Heal toe I lift and step forth into uncertainty,
Capturing all of me it holds,
It has not forsaken
Alas I believe,
In the stone of second chances.
